At a review meeting held at the IG Office at Race Course here, DIGs and SPs of West Zone (Coimbatore and Salem Zone) took part and discussed on the comprehensive security arrangements followed after the IB alert on intrusion of six terrorists into Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the media, IG, K. Periaiah apprised that as an act of precaution, 172 people with criminal records and repeat offenders were arrested and placed under custody. He also opined that security arrangements in the West Zone are carried out in a satisfactory manner.
Since August 23, the City of Coimbatore and all districts in the West Zone have been under tight security blanket. All major exit and entry points including railway stations and all public places are under strict security monitoring.
